Jaguar Type 01 Electric GT Set for New York Unveiling
New Cars·October 12, 2026

Jaguar is about to show the car it hopes will kick off its reinvention. The Type 01, a production electric GT with more than 1,000bhp, is set to break cover overnight in New York, almost two years after the striking concept car first appeared in Miami.
The choice of venue is a signal in itself. Jaguar's decision to launch in America suggests its parent company, JLR, still sees the US as a key market for the car, even though the country has rolled back its emissions legislation and some commentators have been critical of the brand's relaunch. JLR chief commercial officer Leonard Hoornik has promised a launch that is "very, very special," and CEO PB Balaji has been clear that Jaguar's performance goals can only be met with an electric drivetrain.
The car has also gone through a naming change. It was known internally as the X900 and, during its concept phase, as the Type 00. Jaguar has now confirmed that Type 01 is the name it will carry into showrooms. The company says each part of the name means something. "Type" places the car in a line of legendary Jaguars that runs from the C-Type racer, which won at Le Mans in 1951, through the D-Type, E-Type and F-Type. The "0" stands for the zero-emissions powertrain, and the "1" marks it as the first Jaguar of a new era.
The interior, which Jaguar has already shown, is minimalist. A central spine divides the cabin into four sections, and the car has no conventional rear window. A camera takes its place, similar to the one used on the Polestar 4.
Pricing is expected to start at around £120,000 and climb above £150,000 for heavily personalised examples. That places Jaguar above mainstream premium rivals such as BMW and Mercedes-Benz and in the territory of Bentley and Aston Martin. Production begins in the first half of 2027, which ends an 18-month gap in new Jaguar production that started when the F-Pace SUV was retired in December.
Further models are still unconfirmed, but Autocar has previously reported that a large limousine and an SUV are likely to follow on Jaguar's bespoke JEA architecture. Jaguar has not yet confirmed those cars, though the Type 02 and Type 03 names could be used for them.
