BMW's $124,700 i7 60 xDrive Pushes Toward Rolls-Royce Territory

The 2027 BMW i7 60 xDrive starts at $124,700, and the first impression comes from the back seat. In a stop-and-go traffic jam in California, a reviewer spent the opening hours reclined with a 31.3-inch screen in front of them and someone else behind the wheel. That is the setting where a luxury sedan has to prove itself, and by that account the i7 makes a strong case.

The comparison to Rolls-Royce is the most eye-catching claim. Rolls-Royce is also part of the BMW Group, so the two brands share a corporate parent, but their cars sit at very different points in the market. Calling the i7 closer to a Rolls-Royce than any earlier 7 Series is a statement about how the rear cabin feels to be in, not a claim that the two cars are interchangeable.

The large display is the centerpiece of the back-seat experience. A screen that size turns the rear of the car into a place to watch content or work while the car is moving slowly, which is exactly when most people find themselves stuck in a sedan's back seat. Whether that convenience justifies the premium over less expensive luxury EVs will depend on how the rest of the car holds up over a longer drive.

This is an early impression rather than a full review, so the rest of the verdict on ride quality, range, and driving dynamics is still to come. For buyers who spend more time being driven than driving, though, the i7 60 xDrive already looks like one of the more serious contenders in the segment.
